A complete renovation and expansion of a 20 year old family “true log house” retreat that resembling a well used (and loved) “frat-house” that sat on a million dollar lot into a comfortable, brightly colored “cottage” with eclectic furnishings that could sleep at least 15 comfortably in beds. This all started when their kids were all close to graduating from high school and going off to college. The cabin was in need of a face lift and desperately need expanding. The owners desire was to renovate the existing but add a new kitchen and great room and master suite. Right after signing our contract to start the design, the cabin flooded causing extensive damage. This created a rethinking process leading to the current design which did expand the foot print, created a new master suite, a new kitchen and many other features that were originally not anticipated.

We expanded one end to create an outdoor living area and bar with basement space for an additional bedroom, office and bath. We added a tower onto the front of the house for stacked bathrooms making the existing bedrooms larger and also added interest to the front facade.

Due to the flood there was so much damage to the wood that much of the wood tongue and groove on the walls and ceilings were removed, cleaned and reused. The new spaces included the addition of sheetrock which was non-existant in the original log cabin.
