A dream of Marti Nunn, Second Wind is a serene Craftsman Cottage nestled in the Cohutta Wilderness in the town of Blue Ridge, GA. Marti is a cancer survivor and was blessed to have a cabin to escape to in the mountains while she was undergoing cancer treatment. She called her weekend escapes to her cabin a “second wind” from her busy life in Atlanta. Following her recovery she grew the idea and dream to one day create a retreat for others going through treatment for cancer. In 2008, her dream was realized by the opening of Second Wind on her and her husband’s farm in Blue Ridge.

Trimble Kelly Studios donated all design services and worked to help Marti and team procure everything needed for the retreat at cost or donated. We helped with all the interior design, the selection of the finishes, lighting design and fixture selections, through selection and procurement of all furnishings. Our focus was to design an environment that was warm, inviting and supportive of the patients who will visit and use the facility. The entire cottage is Universally Designed with 36″ wide doorways, zero steps to the front door, walk-in tub/shower in the master bath, wheelchair access to the master vanity and plenty of space to maneuver a wheelchair or walker. All finishes are durable, easy to keep clean and again supportive of visitors.

The retreat is free for anyone going through treatment with a letter from their doctor. The retreat has been very busy since opening last year and is starting to get some national exposure and publicity. It was featured in Farm and Ranch Living Magazine.
